Light Up Lagos Festive Illumination

Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has unveiled the 2025 Light Up Lagos Festive Illumination, a project aimed at beautifying the city and boosting tourism activities during the Christmas season.

The Light Up Lagos for the Yuletide season, an initiative of Nigerian Breweries Plc, took place on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja.

The Commissioner, who was represented by a Deputy Director in the Ministry, Mrs. Olajumoke James commended Nigerian Breweries Plc for championing a project that blends aesthetics, culture, community bonding, and economic value.

In her keynote address, the Commissioner described the Light Up Lagos initiative as “a significant contribution to the creative and tourism landscape of Lagos State,” noting that it aligns with the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda to promote tourism, enhance social cohesion, and position Lagos as a global centre for culture, entertainment, and innovation.

According to her, the illumination of the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument and the entire Obafemi Awolowo Way is not only visually appealing but also symbolises unity, shared joy, and the vibrant spirit of the Lagos community.

She expressed delight that the project incorporates community engagement activities such as live performances, creative showcases, and youth-centred artistic expressions. These, she said, would stimulate local commerce, provide safe entertainment for families, and deepen cultural appreciation across the state.

Benson-Awoyinka also applauded Maltina, the flagship brand sponsoring this year’s activation, for demonstrating exemplary corporate social responsibility through its long-standing partnership with Lagos State. She emphasised the importance of sustained public–private collaborations in expanding the State’s tourism economy.

Reaffirming the State Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting tourism, arts, and culture, the Commissioner noted that Lagos continues to intentionally create experiences that attract visitors, encourage investment, and reinforce its standing as a world-class destination.

She urged residents to enjoy the festive celebrations responsibly and participate fully in the various activities lined up throughout the season.

On behalf of the Lagos State Government, the Commissioner reiterated the government’s appreciation to Nigerian Breweries Plc for its continuous support in enhancing the aesthetics and cultural vibrancy of the State during the festive season.
