The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has announced a leadership transition following the end of the tenure of its Director General, Emile Arao, whose contract concluded on April 22, 2026.

In a press statement issued on April 23, the Authority’s Board of Directors confirmed that Arao’s exit marks the completion of his term in office, expressing appreciation for his service and contributions during his tenure.

To ensure continuity in operations, the Board—working in consultation with the parent ministry—has appointed Nicholas Bodo as Acting Director General. He is expected to steer the Authority while the process of recruiting a substantive Director General is underway.

According to the statement, the recruitment process will follow an open, transparent and competitive framework in line with established governance procedures.

KCAA emphasized that it remains fully operational and committed to its mandate of ensuring safe, secure and efficient civil aviation services. The Authority also reassured stakeholders of uninterrupted service delivery throughout the transition period.

The statement was signed by Brown M.M. Ondego, Chairman of the Board of Directors.

KCAA is Kenya’s statutory aviation regulator, mandated to oversee air safety and security, regulate economic aspects of air transport, provide air navigation services, and conduct training of aviation personnel in line with national laws and international standards.
