Nigeria ranks third with more than 100,000 churches, reflecting the country’s large Christian population and the strong presence of Pentecostal denominations, alongside Catholic and mainline Protestant churches. The other countries in the ranking are Russia, with about 90,000 churches; Mexico, with approximately 88,000; the Philippines, with around 85,000; and China, with more than 70,000 registered churches.
According to the report, the figures are estimates based on registered church buildings and should not be regarded as an official global census. Actual numbers could be higher, particularly in countries where house churches and unregistered congregations are widespread.
