Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300, further advancing its fleet modernisation and expansion programme.
The aircraft, registered 5N-CDC, was formally handed over to the Nigerian airline at the Airbus A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada, following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by Ibom Air Managing Director/CEO, George Uriesi.
The latest delivery brings Ibom Air’s total fleet to 10 aircraft, comprising seven Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Regional Jets (CRJ900s) and three Airbus A220-300s. Uriesi described the delivery as a major milestone for the airline, saying the new A220 would contribute to safer, more passenger-friendly, environmentally responsible and efficient operations as Ibom Air expands its network. He also credited the airline’s shareholder, Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, for his continued support and confidence in the airline’s growth.
According to Ibom Air, the addition of the brand-new A220-300 further reduces the average age of its fleet and reinforces its position among Nigeria’s youngest and most modern airline fleets. The Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and CEO of Airbus Canada, Guillaume Chevasson, congratulated Ibom Air on the delivery and said the A220’s operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and performance make it well suited to the airline’s domestic and regional network.
Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 Airbus A220-300 aircraft at the 2021 Dubai Airshow. The latest aircraft is the second A220-300 delivered under that order, following the first factory-new A220 delivered in 2023. The airline also acquired another A220-300 outright in 2024. The growing A220 fleet is expected to give Ibom Air additional capacity to expand its network, improve operational efficiency and strengthen its position in Nigeria and the wider West African aviation market.
Ibom Airlines Limited is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. It aims to set the standard as the airline of choice for passengers by focusing on schedule reliability, on-time departures, and excellent service. Ibom Air’s fleet currently comprises seven Bombardier CRJ 900s and two Airbus A220-300s, serving seven domestic destinations and Accra, Ghana. The addition of the new Airbus will bring the number of Airbus aircraft in its fleet to three.
