The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the resolution of operational issues surrounding Bolt’s services at FAAN-managed airports, clearing the e-hailing platform to resume operations immediately. In a statement dated August 27, 2025, FAAN said the resolution followed constructive engagements with Bolt and the establishment of an agreeable and sustainable operational framework for e-hailing services within the airport environment.
The Authority thanked passengers for their patience and understanding during the period of inconvenience, acknowledging concerns over increased transportation costs and disruptions caused by the temporary interruption of e-hailing services. FAAN said it had been working for nearly a decade to address challenges associated with commercial and e-hailing vehicles at airports, including passenger solicitation, touting, unregulated operations, random pick-ups, and safety, security and accountability concerns.
As part of its efforts to bring greater structure to airport transportation, FAAN introduced the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS). The Authority clarified that ACHRAMS is not an e-hailing application and was not designed to compete with platforms such as Bolt or Uber. Rather, it manages airport car-hire ranks and authorised airport transportation operations. FAAN also clarified that the airport taxi fares recently discussed publicly were not newly imposed by the Authority or introduced by ACHRAMS. According to FAAN, the system simply provided greater visibility and transparency around existing airport-taxi rates.
The Authority acknowledged that the comparison between those rates and the lower fares passengers had become accustomed to through e-hailing platforms contributed to public concerns. FAAN said it had “listened, reflected and made the necessary adjustments”, leading to the agreement with Bolt. The Authority added that it is continuing discussions with other e-hailing operators and expressed confidence that outstanding engagements would be concluded soon.
FAAN reiterated that passengers remain free to choose from available transportation options, while the Authority’s responsibility is to ensure that all authorised services operate within a safe, secure, orderly and accountable airport environment. The development restores an important mobility option for passengers using Nigerian airports and reinforces the need to balance airport security and regulatory requirements with passenger convenience and freedom of choice.
