Kenya’s tourism sector recorded strong growth in 2025, generating between $3.3 billion (Ksh. 0.5 trillion) and $3.75 billion in earnings while attracting a total of 7.9 million visitors, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
The figures, contained in the Kenya Tourism Sector Performance Report 2025 and the government’s latest tourism scorecard, highlight the sector’s resilience and expanding contribution to the national economy.
According to the Ministry, the growth was largely driven by policy reforms under the administration of William Ruto, supported by a combination of strategic initiatives, infrastructure development, and enhanced global marketing efforts.
Central to this progress is the Magical Kenya initiative, which has boosted international visibility and attracted a broader mix of visitors to the country.
Improved air and road connectivity also played a key role in opening up destinations across Kenya, making travel more accessible and enhancing the overall visitor experience.

In addition, the diversification of tourism products—from traditional wildlife safaris to cultural, adventure, and conference tourism—has helped distribute economic benefits more widely while strengthening the sector’s resilience.

Policy measures aimed at easing travel, particularly the introduction of the Electronic Travel Authorization system, have further simplified entry processes for international visitors.
The Ministry noted that sustained collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders has been instrumental in driving growth and ensuring wider economic impact.
Ongoing investments in infrastructure, innovation, sustainability, security, conservation, and skills development were also identified as critical enablers of the sector’s expansion.
With tourism continuing to generate foreign exchange, jobs, and investment opportunities, the government said it will build on these reforms to sustain growth and strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading tourism destination in Africa.
