Rwanda has signed a landmark sponsorship agreement with English Premier League club Aston Villa, in a deal that will see the country’s tourism brand, Visit Rwanda, become the club’s official front-of-shirt sponsor from the 2026/27 season.
The agreement, reportedly worth up to £20 million per year, is the largest commercial shirt sponsorship in Aston Villa’s history and marks a significant expansion of Rwanda’s sports-driven tourism marketing strategy.
The partnership comes shortly after the conclusion of Rwanda’s eight-year sleeve sponsorship agreement with Arsenal, a relationship that helped elevate the country’s international profile through the “Visit Rwanda” campaign.
Under the new arrangement, the Visit Rwanda logo will appear prominently on the front of Aston Villa’s shirts, giving the East African nation unprecedented global exposure through one of the world’s most-watched football leagues.
Rwandan authorities see the deal as a strategic investment aimed at promoting the country’s tourism sector and strengthening its international brand. The partnership is expected to showcase Rwanda’s attractions, including its renowned mountain gorillas, national parks, conference facilities, and growing reputation as a premium African travel destination.
The sponsorship agreement comes at a time when Rwanda’s tourism industry is experiencing strong growth. According to official figures, the country generated a record $685 million in tourism revenues from nearly 1.5 million visitors, underlining the sector’s increasing importance to the nation’s economy.
Tourism has become one of Rwanda’s key economic pillars, with the government continuing to invest heavily in destination marketing, infrastructure development, and international partnerships to attract more visitors and investors.
For Aston Villa, the agreement represents a record commercial milestone and underscores the growing appeal of the club’s global brand. For Rwanda, it is another bold step in leveraging the global reach of football to position itself as one of Africa’s leading tourism and investment destinations.
The partnership is expected to take effect at the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season, opening a new chapter in Rwanda’s ambitious campaign to place the country firmly on the global tourism map.
