The world’s busiest airport Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, Atlanta yesterday welcomed Ethiopian Airlines inaugural flight between Atlanta and Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.

The flight was received by a large crowd of officials and members of the Ethiopian community in metro Atlanta and a water cannon salute on the tarmac. Ethiopian Airlines the largest network operator in Africa, will now offer flights four times a week between Ethiopia and Atlanta on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Ethiopian Airlines’ new service to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is yet another win for our City as we continue to develop and expand our air service to Africa,” said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens. He further added “As we celebrate the new connection of the rich and dynamic cities of Atlanta and Addis Ababa, we look forward to a strong and successful partnership with our new partners in Ethiopia.”

“Congratulations to #EthiopianAirlines on the successful launch of its inaugural flight to Atlanta, Georgia! The airline now offers 6 passenger routes to North America with 1 to Toronto and 5 to various destinations in the US, said Ethiopian Airlines. This was in a Facebook post by Ethiopian Airlines. “With over 30 weekly flights, including 5 to Toronto, 10 to Washington DC, 4 each to New York and Newark, 5 to Chicago and now 4 to Georgia, Ethiopian Airlines is making its marks and leaving a remarkable impression.

The carrier hopes that the airline’s request for additional call points in Toronto and Montreal will receive approval and that it will continue receive support as it expands its network, bridging Africa, the new frontier, to the world and delivering exceptional service along the way. Ethiopian Airlines currently operates more than 130 international passenger and cargo destinations.

Hartsfield-Jackson is relaunching an incentive program to attract new international routes, focusing on Africa, South Asia and South America, with a budget of up to $1.2 million a year. The Atlanta City Council voted this month to approve the program.
