Africa World Airlines (AWA) has taken delivery of its first Embraer E190 aircraft in Ghana, marking the beginning of a planned 10-aircraft fleet expansion and strengthening the airline’s capacity for future growth.

The 102-seat aircraft arrived at Accra International Airport, where it received a traditional water salute, a longstanding aviation ceremony used to mark significant aircraft arrivals and special milestones.

The aircraft completed a three-day journey from China to Ghana, routing through Kazakhstan, Armenia and Tunisia before arriving in Accra.

The delivery marks the first aircraft to arrive under AWA’s planned 10-aircraft fleet expansion programme, as the Ghanaian carrier seeks to expand its operational capacity and strengthen its network.

The Embraer E190 is configured with 102 seats, comprising 14 premium economy seats and 88 economy seats.

The aircraft also carries AWA’s new blue anniversary livery, giving it a distinctive appearance as part of the airline’s anniversary celebrations.

At the rear of the aircraft is the inscription Experience Ghana”, highlighting the airline’s connection with its home market and Ghana’s tourism offering.

The arrival of the E190 provides AWA with additional aircraft capacity as the airline works toward its wider fleet expansion target.

The Embraer E190 is part of Embraer’s E-Jet family, aircraft designed for short- and medium-haul operations and widely used by airlines for regional connectivity.

For AWA, the first E190 delivery represents a significant step in its fleet development plans and is expected to support the airline’s efforts to expand its operations and improve connectivity from Ghana.
