British Airways is set to strengthen its connectivity to Tanzania with the launch of a new three-times-weekly service from London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar from May 29, 2027, bringing the two destinations onto the airline’s global network for the first time.
The new service will operate from London Gatwick to Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) before continuing to Zanzibar, providing travellers from the United Kingdom with direct access to some of Tanzania’s leading tourism destinations.
The service is scheduled to operate throughout the 2027 summer season until October 31, coinciding with the UK school holiday period and Tanzania’s peak safari season.
The new route is expected to strengthen air connectivity between the UK and Tanzania while making it easier for British travellers to combine a safari holiday with a beach getaway.
From Kilimanjaro, travellers will have access to some of Tanzania’s renowned wildlife and nature destinations, including the Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara.
The route will also provide access to Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, while the continuation to Zanzibar will connect travellers to the island’s beaches, cultural attractions and tourism offerings.
The launch represents the first time British Airways will add Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar to its global network, expanding the carrier’s presence in Tanzania.
Operating three times a week, the service will provide travellers with another option for reaching Tanzania from the UK during a period that includes the country’s major safari season and the European summer travel period.
The connection also offers opportunities for Tanzania’s tourism industry to attract more visitors from the UK by combining the country’s wildlife, mountain, cultural and coastal tourism products within a single travel itinerary.
