Ethiopian Airlines has further expanded its domestic network with the inauguration of the Negele Borena Geda Airport and the commencement of a new passenger service to Negele Borena.
The new route was officially launched during a grand ceremony attended by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Oromia Regional State President Shimelis Abdisa, and Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew, alongside senior government officials, airline executives, community representatives, and other stakeholders.

The ceremony marked the unveiling of the newly constructed airport and the beginning of a thrice-weekly passenger service connecting Negele Borena with the airline’s wider domestic and international network.
With the addition of Negele Borena, Ethiopian Airlines has increased its domestic destinations to 24, reinforcing its commitment to improving connectivity and supporting economic growth, tourism, and regional integration across Ethiopia.

Speaking during the inauguration, officials highlighted the importance of the new airport and route in enhancing accessibility, stimulating trade, and creating opportunities for local communities in the Oromia region.
The latest expansion forms part of Ethiopian Airlines’ broader strategy to strengthen domestic air transportation infrastructure while maintaining its position as Africa’s leading carrier.
