Uganda Airlines has resumed intercontinental operations after securing a Boeing 787-8 on a two-month wet lease from Ethiopian Airlines.
According to ch-aviation.com, the aircraft returned the carrier to long-haul service on March 7, reinstating routes to London Gatwick Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, according to ch-aviation research.
ADS-B data shows that the ten-year-old ET-ASI was ferried from Addis Ababa International to Entebbe on March 5 under a Uganda Airlines flight code.
In a travel advisory on social media, Uganda Airlines confirmed the planned restart of flights to London and Mumbai on March 7. It said it was monitoring the fluctuating situation in Dubai as the war between Iran and the United States and Israel spreads across the Persian Gulf.
The airline was working last month on securing a short-term wet-lease while trying to restore to service its two long-haul A330-800Ns, which are undergoing unscheduled maintenance. This resulted in the temporary grounding of Uganda Airlines’ intercontinental flights to London Gatwick, Mumbai International, and Dubai International, among others.
According to ADS-B data, the two A330-800Ns, 5X-CRN (msn 1979) and 5X-NIL (msn 1977), remain grounded at Entebbe and London Gatwick.
