Aviation: How African Airlines Celebrated International Women day 2020 in Style


African women in aviation dominated the skies as the world celebrated the 2020 International Women’s Day.

Female pilots from African leading carrier Ethiopian airlines and Kenya Airways all operated an all-female flight to different destinations across the globe.

Ethiopian Airlines is operated an all-female crew Boeing 777-300ER flight from Addis Ababa to Washington DC via Dublin. The flight which departed Addis Ababa late yesterday night, is en route and will touch down in Washington at about 8:15am local time after a brief stop in Dublin. The flight is commanded by Captain Amsale Gulau.

Also, Kenya Airways operated an all-female cockpit crew Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight from Nairobi to New York. The almost 15 hour non-stop flight is currently en route and led by Captain Irene Koki Mutungi. The other pilots are Captain Parul Patel, and First Officer Sumanpreet Rehal.

Furthermore, Kenya Airways also operated an all-female crew flight from Nairobi to Lusaka and Harare in Zimbabwe. The flight will be operated on a Boeing 737-800NG.

Kenya Airways also operated an all-female crew flight from Nairobi to Mombasa using an Embraer 190.

Furthermore, Precision Air, Tanzania,  also operated an all-female crew flight using an ATR aircraft. The flight crew was headed by Captain Specioza Rweyemamu.
