The United States of America has been ranked as the country with the highest number of the most busiest airports globally with 10 of the Airports Council International (ACI), Top 20 most busiest airports located in the country.
According to ACI release, majority of the 10 airports in the US boast of significant domestic passenger shares ranging between 75% and 95%.

The body noted that one remarkable jump in the rankings is attributed to Heathrow Airport, which surged from 54th place to 8th place following the lifting of all travel restrictions by the UK Government in March 2021, ending a two-year period of impediments.
ACI World Director General, Luis Felipe de Oliveira, emphasized the resilience of airports in the face of cost pressures and labor market challenges, stating, “Airports have once more proven their resiliency as reflected in the key findings from the ACI World Airport Traffic Dataset. As always, reliable data remains fundamental to our advocacy and development of timely airport guidance.”
The top 20 airports for global passenger traffic accounted for 18% of total global traffic, equivalent to approximately 1.2 billion passengers. Notably, the rankings have seen the return of some of the world’s largest airport hubs due to the resumption of international travel, with the global share of international traffic increasing from 25.3% in 2021 to 38.4% in 2022.
