The week-long 2018 Dubai East Africa Tourism Trade Show that kicked off in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on Wednesday May 2nd 2018 finally came to an end in Kampala Uganda on Wednesday May 9 after a successful stopover in Nairobi on Monday this week.

The aim of the show was to showcase new Dubai tourism products and provide destination training material to agents.

Several Dubai properties, airlines, DMC’s, and attractions were present at the workshop. They each gave presentations, shared their upcoming offers, packages, commission structure and built relationships directly with the local travel agents.

This marked the third time that Dubai Tourism has organised a road show in East Africa, generating an opportunity for local tour and travel operators to meet directly with Dubai top travel service providers.

The Gulf city participants included Dubai Health Experience (DXH), Emirates, Jumeirah Group, Grosvenor House, Red Apple Travel, Rayna Tours & Travel, Exite Tourism, Dubai Parks, Dubai Expert among others.

Speaking to KATA Weekly News ahead of the show, the Director Africa International Operations Stella Obinwa assured the travel trade partners of a fully packed event. “We hope to share new Dubai products and destination training material with agents in each of these countries. Several Dubai properties, airlines, DMC’s, and attractions will be coming with us for the workshop,” she said.

While addressing participants at the Show, the CEO of Kenya Association of Travel Agents (KATA), Mr. Nicanor Sabula observed that the Dubai Tourism road show was timely, “This roadshow is happening at a very good time when the country has gained stability after the electioneering activities. It therefore presents a great opportunity to have Dubai Tourism here with us as they showcase their various products.

This will in turn provide the suppliers an opportunity to interact and build relationships directly with the Travel Agents.”

He expressed concern at the mushrooming of some Dubai based DMCs that were harmful to the local travel trade and urged the Dubai Tourism Board to institute a vetting mechanism in order to protect the industry from elements out to swindle agents and their clients.

While addressing the audience, Dubai Health Authority director of health regulation Dr Leilah Mayra mentioned that Dubai has also shifted to medical tourism as it seeks to drive more tourists’ numbers for medical and wellness tourism. Dubai is gradually growing to become a global destination for health tourism.

Hospitals in Dubai are equivalent to 5-star hotels, striving to make the ambiance of the hospital to be the most comfortable for the patients and have the Dubai holiday experience despite being on medication or medical procedures.

Dubai Health Experience (DXH) also seeks to create an experience for healthier tourists who seek wellness retreats among others. In addition, a Dubai Health Tourist Visa is available for medical tourists and is issued within 24-48 hours and renewable after 3 month if need be. In order to offer quality service to her clients, DXH offers 24/7 live chat, unique medical insurance and a patients’ complaint management system.

Dubai’s national Carrier Emirates airlines recently increased their daily flights to Nairobi to three in an effort to support the increase of tourist numbers to Dubai.
In an interview with the KATA Weekly Travel News, Ms. Obinwa says “There’s nothing as bad, especially during the high season, when you are pushing travel to Dubai but all the seats are booked.”

Mr. Abdulaziz Jaber, Sales Manager GCC & Africa for Jumeirah Group showcased the Jumeirah hotels and resorts which include 8 hotels, 6 beach hotels and 2 city hotels. Burj AL Arab offering the ultimate luxury experience and globally known as the world’s most luxurious hotel.

To continue to offer incredible tourist attractions, Dubai takes pride in several world-class theme parks including Hollywood-inspired motiongate™ Dubai, Bollywood Parks, LEGOLAND Dubai, LEGOLAND Waterpark, Lapita, Riverland among others.
