It’s amazing what supposed security expert Irbard Ibrahim thinks of Ghanaian women.
The young man whose very credentials in the field of security have been questioned says “Fulani women are more beautiful than Ghanaian women.”
He said this when the issue of the security situation in Asante Akim Agogo came up for discussion on Accra-based Class FM.
Apart from destroying the farms of indigenous Ghanaians in their host communities, some of these Fulani herdsmen who have migrated from various countries to Ghana for pasture have also shot and killed and sometimes raped innocent Ghanaian women they have come into contact with.
But Irbard, whose opinions on security issues have often raised eyebrows, said “there is no need for Fulani herdsmen to go raping Ghanaian women as always claimed by indigenes who play host to the nomads” because Fulani women are “light-skinned and attractive.”
He said it therefore beat his imagination why a Fulani man would leave their women and go and rape the not-so-beautiful Ghanaian woman.
His comments immediately drew anger from some Ghanaians including celebrated Professor of Law at Seton Hall University School of Law, Newark, New Jersey, Henry Kwasi Prempeh.
.“Therefore their men cannot reasonably be accused of raping Ghanaian women, so says the lazy and jocular media’s favourite ‘international relations and security expert.’ We live in the age of unseriousness; and it shows all over,” he posted on his timeline on facebook to express his outrage.
Sometime last year, national president of the Fulani community in Ghana, one Professor Osman Barry, expressed similar sentiments as Irbard, describing claims of their men raping Ghanaian women as ridiculous.
In an interview on Starr FM on January 12, 2015, he was quoted as having said: “Now you, as you are sitting here my brother, you know the Fulani women how they look like; can you have any comparison to them (sic)?”
“To me it looks very funny because if you say somebody is raping your wife, unless he doesn’t have a wife like yours. And somebody has a wife more than yours, so what are you talking about? If you are talking about sex or you are talking about attraction, these [Fulani] are people who have the most beautiful women in the whole world,” he stressed.
He did not end it there but proceeded to say they “have very elegant and beautiful women in Africa, south of the Sahara…”
“They are a crossbreed of what we call the Caucasians: the white and the black put them together and they produced…the chocolate colour, the milk colour,” Prof Barry who is also a retired diplomat said, adding that being Muslim nomads, the Fulani always need “divine protection”, therefore “somebody of this nature and everything will not leave his beautiful wife, charming woman and very attractive complex colour and then go and chase another wife… For what reason?”
