A communication dated May 13, 2019 in possession of FrontPageAfrica shows that the government, through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), is aware of Liberia’s representation at this year’s Miss Africa Continent pageant taking place in South Africa. If the communication is anything to hold onto, it contradicts statement made by MICAT’s Deputy Minister Eugene Fahngon.
The letter was written by the present Miss Liberia Wokie Dolo and CEO of La Queen Entertainment to Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe.
The communication states, “It is with profound honor that I extend to you sincere compliments and seek your indulgence for Liberia’s participation in the upcoming Miss Africa Continent 2019 pageant, 4th edition taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa on May 25, 2019.”
In the communication, Ms. Dolo told the Information Minister that Liberia’s representation to the continental showpiece was Farsina Farmah, first runner up at the just ended Miss Earth, Liberia pageant.
According to Ms. Dolo, in the letter of invitation, four names were sent to represent Liberia including herself.
She requested Minister Nagbe to communicate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so as to “facilitate their smooth travel to South Africa.”
Few days ago, MICAT, through its Deputy Minister, said Ms. Dolo single-handedly sent Ms. Farmah to represent Liberia without the government’s knowledge.
Fahngon confirmed that even though Ms. Dolo was given a permit to conduct the Miss Earth pageant but it came as a surprise to the Ministry when a runner-up from the just-ended Miss Earth Liberia Pageant was sent to represent Liberia at an international pageant (Miss Africa).
The Deputy Minister’s comments come on the back of a recent decision to recall the Liberian contestant, who was selected to participate in the ongoing 2019 edition of the Miss Africa Continent pageant in South Africa.
Ms. Farmah, who was recalled by the government, was selected by current Miss Liberia Wokie Dolo to represent the country but was shockingly ordered by MICAT to return home because she was “unrealistically sent to represent Liberia by La Queen Entertainment owned by Ms. Dolo.”
