A Kenyan pastor and his members caused a scene at a Funeral Home on the outskirts of Embu Town on Wednesday.
According to edaily.co.ke, the group belonging to a little known denomination stormed the mortuary in an attempt to bring back to life one of their members, who died on Sunday, March 26.
Pastor Robinson Karumba, the husband of the deceased DollyroseNg’endo, 38, said they were responding to the biblical calling, where Jesus brought Lazarus back to life after four days of lifelessness. Camping outside Gakwegori Funeral Home, Pastor Karumba of Eagle Winners Prophetic Ministry claimed that at 3pm Wednesday, March 29, his wife of over 20 years was going to resurrect, expressing belief that his prayer would be answered by God.
And to demonstrate his faith, the father of three had brought along clothes and shoes for his wife. “We believe she is not dead, but merely resting. She is a believer like me and has preached in many places and with prominent preachers. I had to do what I have always preached. Jesus was called to Lazarus’ home after he had died for four days.
“Even my daughter said my mother will come back on Wednesday and that is why I came today. We are playing guitar and other instruments because she was a musician,” declared the preacher.
He asked the mortuary attendants to remove his wife’s body and put it in an open place for the prayers. They took the body of Ms Polly Rosa Ng’endo into a secluded room within the mortuary, laid it on a table and smeared the partly naked body with ‘anointing oil’. With bibles, accompanied a guitar and keyboard, they prayed enthusiastically, singing and shouting at the top of their voices expecting a miracle. Drenched in sweat, they continued until 5pm when the attendants sought to return the body as they were to closed for the day.
Coincidentally, an uncle of the deceased was also at the morgue to book a hearse for the transportation of the body for burial on Saturday. “The uncle said he was not bothered by the prayers and would not interfere with the session. He said they are ready for the burial,” said MrGenesioNjiru, a mortuary attendant. Ms Gladys Murugi, also an attendant at the mortuary, said they had embalmed the body.
“They said a believer doesn’t die. This is the first such episode we are seeing, we didn’t bar them,” she said. MrKaruco, another mortuary attendant also revealed that sections of Ng’endo’s relatives have already notified the morgue attendants that they will collect her body on or before Saturday, April 1.
