Malawi Airlines has secured its Air Operators Certificate from Malawi’s Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
In his announcement to the Nyasa Times, Chief Executive Officer, Kassim Geresu, said the certificate was awarded to the company in January 2014. “I hope the Airline designation and traffic arrangements will be finalized soon. The AOC was a pre-requisite for these action items and will give us the encouragement to work on marketing and sales efforts as well,” he said.
Partly owned by Ethiopian Airlines, Malawi Airlines is a joint venture with both the Malawi government and local shareholders.
The airline had planned to launch operations in January 2014 using a Dash 8-400 and a B737-800, sourced from Ethiopian. Its tentative route network includes flights from its Lilongwe hub to Blantyre as well as Mozambique, Zambia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe
and South Africa. Source: Ch-aviation
