The director general of the National Council of Arts and Culture (NCAC), Otunba Olusegun Runsewe on Monday October 22 paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian father of tourism, chief Mike Amachree in Port- Harcourt, River state.

Runsewe who is in Port – Harcourt for the 2018 National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST) applauded chief Amachree for his contribution towards the development of tourism, art and culture in River state and Nigeria in general.

He assured the Nigerian father of tourism that this year’s NAFEST in the state is going to be a grand event.

Runsewe said the event will create a strategic learning platform on how to alleviate poverty and enthrone a new rural sustainable cultural economy through skill acquisition and exposure to other multi beneficial contents related to Nigerian culture.

NCAC director general noted that the unity festival is coming at a time Nigeria has become the destination to watch as President Buhari’s diplomatic shuttling across the globe has attracted some massive interest on Nigeria beyond the traditional business frontiers hence the repositioning of culture as the central bank of our creative wealth.

In his response, Chief Amachree lauded Runsewe for his giant stride in the art and culture sector.
He said Runsewe is the kind of personality Nigeria needs to move the nation forward.

While urging Runsewe to keep up the good works, Amachree noted that the DG who changed the face of tourism in Nigeria while in NTDC is now doing the same for art and culture as the NCAC helmsman.

Amachree recalled that when Pa Mathew Da Silva, the late Nigerian father of tourism died, it was Runsewe that mobilised the tourism industry, including the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation, where he was the DG then to give him a befitting burial.
