Experts at ATM 2025

At Arabian Travel Market (ATM) this week, tourism and investment leaders gathered to discuss how strategic investments are driving the growth of the Middle East’s tourism sector and unlocking its vast potential.

Speaking on the Global Stage yesterday, a high-level panel discussed the critical role of government policy, innovative development, and strong public-private collaboration in accelerating sustainable tourism growth across the region.

The panel highlighted that as the Middle East rapidly evolves into one of the world’s premier tourism hubs, investment strategies must align with the principles of sustainable tourism as defined by the World Trade Organisation (WTO)—addressing the economic, social, and environmental needs of visitors, the industry, and host communities.

Panellists agreed that diversification is no longer optional but essential. To meet the shifting expectations of global travellers and attract a broader visitor base, the region must offer a wide array of experiences rooted in inclusivity, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Irina Matei, CEO of Therme Dubai—a landmark project set to become the world’s tallest wellbeing resort—remarked:
“We’ve been fortunate to collaborate with Dubai Municipality to elevate wellbeing as a national priority. Our goal is to democratise wellness, transforming it from a luxury into a universally accessible necessity. The region’s government strategies are already forward-thinking, placing inclusivity and impact at the core.”

The discussion also examined how large-scale infrastructure investments and global mega-events such as the FIFA World Cup and Expo 2020 Dubai have catalysed tourism growth, drawing international travellers to experience the Middle East for the first time.

Guy Hutchinson, President MEA at Hilton, noted: “The Middle East is one of Hilton’s fastest-growing regions globally and serves as a model for sustainable tourism development. The UAE has progressed from building its tourism industry to becoming an exporter of strategic know-how. Demand across multiple segments continues to rise, supported by robust policy and seamless public-private sector cooperation.”

The panel also underscored the importance of integrated policy-making and cross-sector collaboration.
“Success is achieved when airlines, governments, and the tourism industry work in alignment,” Hutchinson added. “This structured, strategic collaboration is what drives national and regional transformation.”

Looking ahead, ATM’s Global Stage will tomorrow host its inaugural Influencer Networking Session, presented in partnership with NaviSavi. This initiative is designed to cultivate meaningful partnerships between influencers, destinations, and leading brands—opening new pathways for collaboration in the digital era.

Arabian Travel Market continues at the Dubai World Trade Centre until 1 May 2025. Strategic partners for this year’s event include Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as Destination Partner; Emirates as Official Airline Partner; IHG Hotels & Resorts as Official Hotel Partner; and Al Rais Travel as Official DMC Partner.
