A Nigerian nurse working at a hospital in Birmingham on a sponsored visa has been dismissed with immediate effect after watching the horrific video involving the woman and minor in Onitsha. The video had been forwarded to her by someone in Nigeria.
According to a facebook post, it is alleged that she watched the video at work during her break and then showed it to a colleague—a white British woman—simply intending to discuss the disturbing story coming out of Nigeria.
Unfortunately, the situation did not go as she expected. The colleague bacame so traumatised by what she saw that she could no longer continue working and asked to go home. She said that she had never seen anything so horrific and that it had affected her severely.
The incident was immediately brought to the attention of HR. The traumatised employee was granted leave, while the Nigerian nurse’s employment was terminated with immediate effect. She was also reported to the Nursing and Midwifery Council for possible disciplinary action.
Any NMC action could affect her professional registration and PIN. The loss of her sponsored employment could also affect her immigration status.
It is reported that safeguarding measures have been initiated concerning her three children.
The lesson remains clear: do not deliberately watch, download, retain or share such material. Showing it to another person—even merely to discuss or condemn what happened—could expose you to serious employment, professional and legal consequences.
