Malaysia today signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Senegal over tourism cooperation efforts.
The agreement will see Malaysia partner with the African country to help expand Senegal’s tourism through combined efforts in research and development, training, promotional and publicity material, meetings, travel marks and trip fairs, and encouragement.
Present at the ceremony was Tourism and Culture minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz and Senegal’s tourism minister Mame Mbaya Niang.
“Senegal and Malaysia are both a proud Muslim nation, they have made the effort to come all the way and we are very appreciative,” said Nazri at the signing ceremony at the Malaysian Tourism Centre.
“The Senegal delegation has come to learn the expertise or know-how of tourism in Malaysia, Mr Niang has seen Malaysia rise from a country receiving 5 million to 26 million tourists now.”
He added that the partnership is likely to see more students from Senegal studying in Malaysia and introduce more Malaysian travellers to Africa, particularly Senegal.
“Many universities and educational institutions like the International Islamic University have received many students from Africa and we can mark the talented students from Senegal for opportunities to further their studies here,” added Nazri.
