Kenya Airways’ Captain Ruth Karauri has won the coveted Africa Travel 100 Award which recognises exceptional women in the travel and tourism sector.
Ruth Karauri , captured the worlds fascination when she executed a perfect crosswind landing at London’s Heathrow Airport during storm Eunice.
With over 20 years’ of experience, she attributes her success to dedication to her craft. She also credits her great support system for her current role as a Captain of the B787 Dreamliner.

Her motivation to become a commercial pilot began at an early age fostered by her need to constantly challenge herself. This coupled with hard work saw Ruth excel in all her endeavors.
One of the biggest barriers to career entry for pilots is the cost of flying school. To that end, Ruth hopes to start raising funds and building mentorship networks towards scholarships for deserving young women who are qualified and wish to enter the industry.
Ruth is a wife and a doting mother of three – including two daughters. When not in the skies, the fitness enthusiast and avid reader can be found creating culinary master pieces in the kitchen.
