Africa: Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance for Unruly Passengers at MMA2

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has vowed to prosecute passengers who engage in unruly conduct within its premises, following a recent incident at the terminal.

In a statement, BASL management reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on behavior that threatens the safety, security, or smooth operation of the airport.

The company described such conduct as unacceptable and warned that offenders would face the full weight of the law.

“Safety and security remain our top priorities, and we will not hesitate to take decisive legal action against anyone who disrupts airport operations or endangers lives,” the statement read.

BASL also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all travelers, airline staff, and visitors. The company commended its security team for their swift intervention during the incident and pledged continued collaboration with relevant authorities to curb unruly passenger behavior.

The airline said: “On the 10 th of August 2025 at approximately 2:30pm, a serious incident of passenger misconduct occurred involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson, who arrived on Ibom Air flight QI 513 from Uyo.

“The passenger exhibited multiple acts of aggression and noncompliance that endangered the safety of airline crew members and airport security personnel.

“The incident began when the passenger refused to comply with standard safety protocols regarding mobile phone usage during landing procedures. Subsequently, Ms. Emmanson physically assaulted multiple personnel, including:  Ibom Air cabin crew member Ms. Juliana Edward, BASL and FAAN Aviation Security (AVSEC) officers and Additional security personnel during transportation and processing .

“The passenger has been handed over to FAAN Aviation Security (AVSEC) for further investigation and The Airport Command of the Nigerian Police Force has also been notified and is aware of the situation.

“The Management wishes to make absolutely clear that such behavior will NOT be tolerated under any circumstances within our terminal facilities.

We operate under a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding: “Physical assault or threats against airline crew members, Violence or aggression toward airport security personnel, Non-compliance with aviation safety regulations and crew instructions, Disruptive behavior that compromises the safety and security of passengers and staff.

“Passengers who engage in disruptive or violent behavior at MMA2 will face: “ Immediate intervention by trained security personnel, Detention and formal investigation procedures, Full prosecution under applicable Nigerian aviation laws, Potential placement on airline and airport restriction lists, Civil responsibility for losses and disruptions incurred”

“We urge all travelers using MMA2 facilities to comply promptly with all crew instructions and safety protocols, treat airline and airport personnel with respect and courtesy, report any concerning behavior to security personnel immediately, and remember that aviation security measures exist to protect everyone’s safety”
