Ebonyi Enters Commercial Aviation

Ebonyi State has taken a decisive step into Nigeria’s aviation space with the acquisition of three commercial aircraft, marking the formal take-off of Ebonyi Air and signalling the state government’s ambition to reposition its economy through air transport and logistics.

Accordign to businessday.ng, delivering his 2026 New Year address, titled ‘Ebonyi Rising: A New Year of Hope and Responsibility,’ the Governor revealed that the fleet is scheduled to arrive within the month.

This development, he said marks a pivotal shift in the state’s infrastructure strategy, using the Ebonyi State International Airport to drive commercial traffic and global investment.

Nwifuru emphasised that the acquisition was a calculated business decision rather than a vanity project.

“Reliable air transport makes it easier for investors to do business and for professionals to move in and out of the state,” the Governor stated.

He noted that the airline will serve as a critical bridge, connecting Ebonyi’s local economy to national and international markets.

The procurement aligns with the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs, focusing on:

Economic Connectivity: Reducing travel time and costs for business leaders.

Job Creation: Stimulating the aviation, hospitality, and service sectors.

Private Sector Growth: Encouraging external firms to set up operations in a more accessible Ebonyi.

Reflecting on the challenges of 2025, Nwifuru praised the resilience of Ebonyi’s farmers, traders, and civil servants.

He attributed the state’s progress to the sustained peace and unity across its local government areas, promising that the 2026 budget would be managed with strict prudence to ensure every resident feels the impact of “Ebonyi Rising.”
