Ghana approves visa waiver

Ghana’s government has approved new visa waiver agreements with three countries, a move designed to improve travel access for its citizens and strengthen the global value of the Ghanaian passport.

According to mobile.ghanaweb, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on Wednesday April 22, 2026, announced that Cabinet has given the green light for reciprocal visa waiver arrangements with Antigua and Barbuda, Maldives and Zambia.

“The agreements cover holders of all categories of passports from ordinary, service to diplomatic,” Ablakwa stated.

He added that under the new arrangements, “Ghanaians and citizens of the three countries can embark on a maximum of 30-day visits per trip without requiring visas.”

The agreements are expected to be presented to Parliament for ratification in the coming weeks before they take full effect.

“Parliament is expected to ratify the cabinet approvals shortly,” he noted.

Ablakwa said the initiative forms part of a broader government strategy to enhance the global standing of the Ghanaian passport while maintaining strict security standards.

“We shall keep negotiating more Visa Waiver Agreements as we add greater value to the Ghanaian Passport, and at the same time enhance security protocols around acquiring Ghanaian Passports,” he said.

The agreements are also expected to boost tourism, business travel and cultural exchange between Ghana and the three partner countries.

Cabinet yesterday approved additional Visa Waiver Agreements for Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives and Zambia.

The agreements cover holders of all categories of passports from ordinary, service to diplomatic.
