Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Travel and Tourism of The Gambia (ITTOG), Adama Bah has been appointe a board member of a new initiative, the International Centre for Responsible Tourism Global (ICRT).
According to him, for years “I have been an associate member to the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT) and also founded the International Centre for Responsible Tourism-West Africa within the Institute of Travel and Tourism of the Gambia (ITToG).
“Through the ICRT a number of Gambians and Africans have been provided with scholarships to study Responsible Tourism Management mainly in UK Universities.
“Over 10 Gambians and dozens of Africans got their post graduate Masters through this program funded by the Commonwealth Foundation. Presently, 4 Gambians (2 from GTB and 2 private sector) are doing this program.”
The ICRT-Global will provide online short courses and other services in responsible tourism from early 2025. The first courses to be started are a Professional Certificate in Responsible Tourism and one in addressing Over Tourism. To sustain the initiative a reasonable fee is charged.
The ICRT-Global is established with the express intention of amplifying global knowledge and understanding of Responsible Tourism.
The founder and Emeritus Professor Harold Goodwin has been a friend since we met at the 7th. Commission for Sustainable Development at the UN in New York in 1999. Together we have implemented projects both in The Gambia and around the world. I am honored he selected me to serve in the journey he describes thus:
In 1675 Sir Isaac Newton wrote: “If I see further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants”. The giants of Responsible Tourism are those people who are practicing it, in every corner of the world. We want to share that collective knowledge to help us all to see further.
