Africa: Nigerian Startup airline, Green Africa Airlifts 300,000 Passengers In One Year, Laments Jet A1, Forex Challenges In Aviation Sector

Nigerian startup carrier, Green Africa airline has said it has safely airlifted about 300,000 passengers within one year of its operations of commencement of flight services in the aviation sector.

According to independent.ng, the airline also mentioned the high price of Jet A1, otherwise known as aviation fuel in the local parlance and paucity of forex as the two major challenges confronting its operations in the past one year.

Omolara Kehinde, Brand Marketing Specialist, Green Africa also said stated that the airline had operated 6, 261 flights within the period.

The statement further commended its Nigerian passengers for their patronage in the last 365 days.

Green Africa with its headquarters in Lagos, started scheduled services on August 12, 2021.

Kehinde stated that the airline had weathered many challenges in the difficult operating environment and attributed its survival and success to the support and patronage it has enjoyed within the period to its loyal clientele and other stakeholders.

Green Africa had commenced operation with a Lagos-Abuja-Lagos flight in 2021, but currently flies to and eight destinations in the local market.

The routes are; Lagos, Ilorin, Abuja, Owerri, Akure, Port Harcourt, Benin, and Enugu.

The statement added: “To be sure, the journey so far has not been entirely smooth for the company given the current challenges facing the aviation industry in Nigeria, especially the increase in the cost of Jet-A fuel and the fluctuations in exchange rates.

“The challenges have seen the relatively ‘baby’ companies reschedule flights and, in some rare cases, cancel them outright. Despite this, the company has always prioritized the safety of its customers.”

ObiukwuMbanuzuo, Green Africa’s Chief Commercial officer, while commenting on its operations in the last one year, said the airline takes safety as its major priority.

“We appreciate all our gFliers who have flown with us these last 365 days. Our record of safely transporting 300,000 passengers on 6,261 flights proves that we are committed to reducing flight disruptions to the barest minimum having our goal of safely taking every Nigerian a step closer to their dreams.”

Also, Babawande Afolabi, the founder of Green Africa in his remarks conveyed his appreciation to all internal and external stakeholders who have helped bring his vision to reality.

He lauded the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other third party suppliers like the ground handlers, catering companies, maintenance and security providers. Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO), and other key government agencies who he said had supported the company on its journey thus far.

“I would like to acknowledge our shortcomings, especially with flight disruptions this past year and we can only assure all gFliers that all hands are on deck to improve reliability, and timeliness as we ensure that we get each customer one step forward toward their dreams,” he added.
