Uganda’s Ministry of Health has confirmed a single case of the Sudan Ebola virus in a 32-year-old male nurse who exhibited symptoms at Mulago National Referral Hospital on January 29, 2025. Health officials have swiftly implemented containment measures, assuring the public and travelers that the situation is under control and that Uganda remains safe for visitors.
According to a release by Uganda Tourism Bord, in a response, Government of Uganda has swiftly implemented measures to contain any further spread of the virus. Such measures include identification and isolating contacts, targeted vaccination of contacts against Ebola and deployment of rapid response teams in affected areas.
Government has additionally enhanced surveillance at all entry points such as Entebbe International Airport and major border crossings to enforce strict infection prevention and control measures across health facilities.
Public sensitization campaigns are on-going to raise awareness about Ebola prevention and safety. With these enhanced strict protocols in place to protect both the population and visitors within the country, Uganda remains safe and welcoming for travelers. Tourism activities, including safaris, mountain trekking, and cultural experiences, should continue as planned.
