Luanda set the tone for Africa’s aviation future as leaders from across the continent and the global aviation community gathered for the Official Opening of the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa Annual General Assembly, Conference & Exhibition.
The ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest, H.E. José de Lima Massano, Minister of State for Economic Coordination of the Republic of Angola, who underscored aviation’s vital role in driving economic growth, connectivity, and regional integration.
H.E. Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Angola, also delivered remarks, highlighting the importance of strong air transport systems in advancing national development and regional connectivity.

The session brought together airport executives, economists, and aviation stakeholders from across Africa to examine the evolving economic landscape shaping airport operations and air transport growth on the continent. Discussions centred on financial sustainability, traffic recovery and growth trends, revenue diversification, and innovative approaches to strengthening airport business models in an increasingly dynamic aviation environment.
Participants exchanged insights and best practices aimed at enhancing airport competitiveness while supporting connectivity, trade, and regional integration. The engagement highlighted the critical role of sound economic planning in enabling airports to remain resilient, future-ready, and responsive to emerging opportunities across Africa’s aviation sector.
Remarks from Ali Tounsi, Secretary General of ACI Africa, Fabrice Grondin, President of ACI Africa, and Justin Erbacci, Director General of ACI World, emphasized collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development as key priorities for African airports.

Economic strategy and industry resilience were in sharp focus as one of the three committees that officially kicked off the #SeeYouInLuanda Conference in Angola.
