Cairo Airport, Top 10 Busiest Airports

Cairo International Airport has set a new benchmark in its operational history, handling an unprecedented 102,108 passengers on a single day across 682 flights, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The record-breaking traffic reflects a surge in travel demand and the airport’s growing capacity as a major aviation hub in the region.

According to english.ahram.org.eg, the flights included 343 departures and 339 arrivals.
The previous record was 97,311 passengers on Friday, followed by 97,000 on 2 January 2025.

The ministry highlighted that the new figures underscore the airport’s capacity to meet growing travel demand and its readiness to accommodate large numbers of tourists and travellers, reinforcing its position as Egypt’s primary gateway.

This surge in traffic follows the conclusion of the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, which began on Monday.
Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny noted that these figures align with the ministry’s strategic plan to modernise Egypt’s airport infrastructure, improve efficiency, and expand capacity.

El-Hefny reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing service quality and bolstering Cairo International Airport’s role as a key aviation hub in the Middle East and Africa.

He also revealed plans to increase the airport’s annual capacity to 60 million passengers by 2030.
Cairo International is Egypt’s largest of 23 airports. In January, the Ministry of Civil Aviation reported a 9% increase in passenger traffic and a 3% rise in flight operations across both domestic and international airports in 2024 compared to the previous year.

In 2024, Cairo Airport served over 27.7 million passengers and handled 211,600 flights, compared with 26.4 million passengers and 198,900 flights in 2023.

Other airports across Egypt recorded a total of 22.1 million passengers and 167,684 flights in 2024, up from 20.2 million passengers and 162,773 flights in 2023.

Egypt welcomed around 15.3 million tourists in 2024, a nearly 5% increase from the previous year. The country has set an ambitious target of attracting 30 million tourists by 2028.
