The Cross River State Commissioner for Commerce, Hon. Chief (Dr) Mrs. Abigail Orok Duke, headed a delegation of local coffee farmers to the Coffee and Tea Value Chain Stakeholders Summit in Jalingo, Taraba State, where industry players gathered to chart a path for revitalising Nigeria’s coffee and tea sectors.
The summit focused on discussions around the revitalization of Nigeria’s coffee and tea value chains and was organised by the Raw Materials Research and Development Council in collaboration with the National Coffee and Tea Association of Nigeria.
During the engagement, Cross River State was announced as the only state in the country with a formal policy on coffee. The state was also recognised as a leading producer of coffee in Nigeria, reflecting its long-standing role in the sector and its commitment to structured agricultural development.
The participation of Cross River State at the summit underscored the state government’s drive to strengthen agro-based value chains, support local farmers, and position coffee as a viable export and income-generating commodity.
