Tourism: Gambia’s Tourism Board Director of Tourism Promotion, UK, Adama Njie Wins Africa Travel 100 Global Leaders Award

The Director of Tourism Promotion, UK office, the Gambia Tourism Board, Adama Njie has been listed as one of the winners of the African Travel 100 Global Leaders Award for his remarkable achievement towards the growth of the tourism sector in Africa.

ADAMA NJIE has more than 20 years of working experience in the Travel and Tourism industry.

He had worked at the Gambia International Airlines from 1996 to 2005 as ground operations staff and Head of the Cargo Unit respectively during this period.

Njie joined the Gambia Tourism Board in May 2012 until September 2022 (10 years) as the Director of Marketing of the Gambia Tourism Board whose mandate was the Head of the Marketing Department responsible for all marketing and promotional activities of the Gambia Tourism Board in creating more awareness of The Gambia as an ideal Tourism Destination.

Also, his mandate is to ensure that the marketing goals and objectives of the Gambia Tourism Board are met in a timely and cost-effective manner and to grow sustainable tourism through increased numbers, increased source markets and spending per tourist visit.

From September 2022 to date, he was moved to The Gambia Tourism Board United Kingdom office at the Gambian High Commission as the Director of Tourism Promotion UK -Covering Ireland, Central and Eastern Europe.

“My main responsibility is to develop, coordinate, and deliver marketing and promotional activities of The Gambia in the UK, Ireland, and Central and Eastern Europe. This is in line with the strategic direction to increase and expand our presence in these markets to increase more arrivals to Destination Gambia.”

“From 2012 to 2015 I was the Secretary of the Tourism World Bank Project – named the Tourism Marketing Committee (TMC) which was constituted to coordinate the marketing and promotion activities of Destination under the World Bank Project. ”

“In 2014, I was the Head of the Logistic Committee of the 2014 ROOTS HOME COMING FESTIVAL of The Gambia.”

“From 2020- 2022 I served as the Chairman of the Gambia Tourism Board Contracts Committee to look into all procurement processes of the Gambia Tourism Board. ”
“On May 18th, 2024 I was awarded a CHIEFTIANCY TITLE as the BOROKINI of the ISAHGA AKINI KINGDOM in Lagos Nigeria.”

“I got a master’s Degree in Business Management and a BA(HONS) in Travel and Tourism at the University of Sunderland and the London School of Management in the UK respectively.”
