Irrespective of where Nigerians are, they want to have access to information at their convenience, as a new study has found 97% internet users make calls or use the short message system (SMS) when indoors. From the study, 66% of the working population rated the need to remain updated as important to them. The Ericsson ConsumerLab tagged, “Internet Goes Mobile”, released on Wednesday revealed that irrespective of their location, users want to remain connected with messaging and calling, updated with browsing and social networking and have access to entertainment, mainly music. According to the study, mobile phones have the highest devices share of internet services, with 84% of smartphones are connected to the Internet.
From the study, it was revealed that 82% of mobile phone users access the Internet with their device daily while 45% of personal computers (PC) users and 44% of tablet users do the same. On widespread usage of mobile broadband (MBB) services, many more use mobile broadband across devices including laptops, mobile phones, and tablets than WiFi, while more than 95% of MBB users surf the mobile broadband on smartphones. Then, the availability of good network and voice quality drives up consumer satisfaction as testified by 56% mobile phone users who are satisfied with data speed and voice connection quality. Over 50% of those who switch between WiFi and mobile broadband do so to changing locations or the availability of connections. Speaking on the trends, Fredrik Jejdling?, vice president and regional head of Ericsson, Sub-Sahara Africa, said the report was a proof that from marketplace to the boardroom, schools to households, the free flow of ideas and information shapes people’s lives and everyday decisions.
