Africa: Lagos State to participate Akwaaba Travel Market, Accra Weizo

Lagos State government has confirmed that it would participate in the 2018 editions of Akwaaba African Travel Market and Accra Weizo which would hold In Lagos and Accra respectively.

The State government, speaking through Mr. Steve Ayorinde, Commissioner, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, made this known when he hosted the Akwaaba Team on a courtesy visit to the ministry’s office at state’s secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. The State had earlier in the month gazetted Akwaaba African Travel Market as one of the events it would be partnering with in 2018.

Responding to Mr. Ikechi’s speech in which he congratulated the Commissioner on his new appointment and presentation, Mr. Ayorinde said that “Lagos State would participate in Accra Weizo.

“Lagos would host an Ekaabo night at Accra Weizo, the ECOWAS Travel Fair scheduled to hold 19th-23rd June.

“Lagos State would also participate at AKWAABA African Travel Market. It would host Lagos Day at AKWAABA African Travel Market”, he maintained.

Mr. Steve said also that the State would host a City Tour with more buses this year in addition to being a hosted buyer for 20 international delegates with a Cruise of the Lagos waterways.

Mr. Ikechi Uko, Managing Director, Akwaaba African Travel Market and Publisher, ATQ News, in his facebook page announcing the visit said that, “Lagos is the 6th largest Economy in Africa and the 2nd Largest economy in West Africa. It is home to 9 out of the Top 20 Billionaires in Africa. It is the Entertainment Capital of Africa and home to Olamide, Wizkid, Davido and Psquare. It is Home to most Nollywood stars and the Fashion capital of Africa.

“It is also Home to Akwaaba African Travel Market so it was great news when Team Akwaaba was received by Team Tourism Lagos at Alausa. Lagos State has Gazetted Akwaaba as an Official Lagos event and the Commissioner of Tourism, Steve Ayorinde led the Permanent Secretary, the Special Adviser and Directors to receive us.

“It’s so Nice talking Tourism to intelligent people. I was so willing to share my 3 decades of learning with this team.
“Lagos will host a Lagos day at Akwaaba and an Ekaabo Night at #accraweizo in Accra, Ghana…Lagos is the centre of Excellence. Synergy that works”, Ikechi concluded.

Akwaaba African Travel Market (AFTM) is an annual international travel event organized by Akwaaba Travel Market Limited and founded by Ikechi Uko.

It is the only international travel fair in West Africa; it’s a face to face marketing platform for travel and tourism organisations, corporations, States and countries with passion to promote their assets; and a meeting place for travel and tourism investors to network.

It’s held every year in Lagos, Nigeria. Because of the large turnout of participation, drawing attendance from so many countries; numerous airlines, both domestic and foreign; and leading Africa hotel chains, it is referred to as ‘‘Where Africa meets the world’’.
Accra Weizo Travel Expo is targeted at growing Travel Business in West Africa and is organised by African Travel Market who also organises Akwaaba Travel Market in Lagos Nigeria.

West Africa is the biggest Region in Africa with over 350 million people. It receives the least Number of Tourists yet West African Countries generate the highest number of Outbound Travellers In Africa.

There is a need to encourage West Africans to Travel within the Region and this is the goal of #accraweizo.

Themed Seamless Travel in West Africa this year is the Fourth edition.
