Despite the low impact of the coronavirus pandemic in the Africa, countries in West Africa, are discouraging travel with closed borders, making border official to take advantage of travellers.
Closed borders mean reduced travel and low economic activity along the West African region.
According to an article on modernghana.com, the situation may discourage trade and the movement of people, which could be dire to economies in the region.

In Europe where many economies were ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic, the EU managed to open their borders as soon as possible so that their economies do not collapse. Yet, in our region which was spared the worst of Covid-19, our callous and unthinking misrulers shut off the colonial-imposed borders, thus crippling the entrepreneurial spirits and efforts of their people.
The real tragedy is that these clueless and totally out-of-touch rulers do not appear to appreciate the fact that their closing the borders only encourage and enrich Customs and Immigration officials!
Visit Tudu in Accra, like I did today, and you will see that pan-ECOWAS travel and business continue as usual. The only difference is that citizens are made to pay more!
