In a major step toward its Digital Ethiopia 2030 vision, Ethiopia officially launched teleStream, its first comprehensive national digital content platform.

According to Birrmetrics, the service is part of the operator’s broader “Next Horizon: Digital & Beyond 2028” strategy, which seeks to expand digital services, foster economic growth.

TeleStream is delivered over Ethio Telecom’s fibre, 4G, and 5G networks, supported by the telecloud infrastructure and the telebirr digital payment ecosystem. The platform offers more than 60 live television channels and over 350 video-on-demand titles, accessible via fixed broadband or mobile SIM cards. A set-top box allows non-smart TVs to become smart, eliminating the need for satellite dishes and ensuring stable, low-latency streaming even in adverse weather conditions.

The service opens opportunities for media houses, content creators, advertisers, businesses, educational institutions, and government agencies. By hosting broadcasts on domestic cloud infrastructure, teleStream provides a reliable, high-quality platform for national and international content, including news, entertainment, podcasts, and educational programming. The platform also prioritizes content that reflects Ethiopian culture, values, and ethics.

TeleStream is designed to make digital entertainment widely accessible while creating new revenue opportunities. Media companies can distribute content cost-effectively, advertising agencies can leverage targeted ads, and educational institutions can provide remote learning resources through the platform. For hotels and businesses, teleStream offers a modern alternative to maintaining multiple satellite dishes, enhancing the customer experience with integrated cloud-based services.

The operator said the platform represents a key step in modernizing Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure and media ecosystem, providing citizens with an upgraded entertainment experience while contributing to the country’s Digital Ethiopia 2030 objectives. Customers can access teleStream through the telebirr SuperApp, Zemen Gebeya, or nearby service centers.
